INTRODUCTION
In May of 1993, Ernest R. Miller
founded the Toledo Sports Youth
Foundation. For 16 years he
has organized a summer basketball
team which has traveled around
the country under an “Education
Through Sports” program.
The organization has been very
successful in introducing student
athletes to college, with numerous
players receiving college scholarships.
The Toledo Sports Youth Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit public foundation providing
educational and sports opportunities for youth. The purpose of our organization
is to provide educational assistance and sports activities in attempting to
maintain
youth as productive citizens in our society.
The Ohio Gators was introduced in 2007 as part of the Toledo Sports Youth Foundation,
Inc. We began in 2007 with one team. Nine of the players
went on to earn scholarships to play basketball at the
next
level.
Now,
in 2009, we will have 12 teams with over 110 student athletes in our program.
In September of 1997, the Toledo Sports Youth Foundation, Inc. was incorporated
by Bob Taft, Secretary of the State of Ohio. Our status to be recognized as a
501 C (3) organization as designated by the IRS is pending.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our “Education Through Sports” program provides youth with the opportunity
to showcase their athletic skills before representatives of the nation’s
universities and junior colleges, leading to scholarships. The Toledo Sports
Youth Foundation will take pride in aiding in the development of educational,
social, and physical growth in hopes of providing youth with the tools necessary
for belonging in a complex society such as ours.
OBJECTIVES
The overall objective of
the Toledo Sports Youth
Foundation is to further
education, enhance spiritual
growth, promote leadership
skills and instill
the importance of teamwork,
while developing self-esteem,
self-discipline, and responsibility.
The Toledo Sports Youth Foundation will provide a program that details social
and educational skills that will allow youth to be productive, responsible, and
considerate citizens.
